Tecate’s Mr. de Mayo serves as the ‘Authentic’ Authority on How & Why to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo
NORWALK, Conn.--(HISPANIC PR WIRE)--May 4, 2004--Cinco de Mayo is more than just a fiesta, it is a date of significant importance for the Mexican community and this year, Tecate’s “Mr. de Mayo” (Señor de Mayo) aims to share the reasons on how and why we should celebrate the holiday.
“The unofficial holiday has become a perfect time for Mexican-Americans and all Americans to unofficially celebrate Mexican culture, food and drink,” said Andres Siefken, senior brand manager for Tecate, Labatt USA. “Tecate is about being true to its authentic Mexican roots and Cinco de Mayo is indeed a key historic date in Mexican history. It’s not just about a party; it’s a reminder of how far the Mexican community has come through hard work and perseverance. Mr. de Mayo was created to share this message in a fun, tongue-in-cheek manner.”
Why We Celebrate Cinco de Mayo
Official or not, Cinco de Mayo has become an American tradition. Mr. de Mayo makes note of the following reasons on why we celebrate this holiday.
-- Cinco de Mayo commemorates the victory of the Mexican army on May 5, 1862, over the French army at the Batlle of Puebla.
-- Although the Mexican army was defeated, the date came to represent a symbol of Mexican unity and patriotism celebrated with authentic Mexican food and drink, and festivities like parades and piñatas to be enjoyed with friends and family.
How To Celebrate Cinco de Mayo
Mr. de Mayo encourages one and all to spend time with friends and family educating one another on the importance of this date. Listed here are ways to share in the pride and heritage of being Mexican and/or embracing an appreciation for Mexican culture.
-- Serve up a platter with Mexican appetizers such as quesadillas, chimichangas, and queso fundido (a melted Mexican cheese fondue); all considered to be an authentic alternative to chips and salsa.
-- Add to the main course of tacos and enchiladas by serving grilled carne asada prepared with Tecate beer for added flavor.
-- Indulge guests with sopes; a thick tortilla-like sandwich prepared with guacamole, lettuce, tomato, onions, and chicken or steak as desired.
-- Last but not least, add a festive piñata and mariachi music for non-stop singing and dancing all night long!
