AOL Latino Delivers Spanish Election Coverage
Hispanic Ad - AOL Latino, the leading Spanish language Internet service provider for U.S. Hispanics, will offer comprehensive election coverage through its “Tu Voz Es Tu Voto” (Your Voice is Your Vote) area. Designed to enable members to react and interact with all the campaign news, the area will feature interactive online coverage from the national conventions with original reporting from the floors, breaking news, online polls, chats, message boards and debates. The service will also follow one delegate from each party in advance of the conventions to allow members the opportunity to view and experience the everyday responsibilities of a delegate.
In addition, AOL Latino has partnered with Activote, the nonpartisan, nonprofit organization committed to facilitating all Hispanics with the information needed to vote. Through this agreement, members will be able to easily register for the 2004 election from their State of choice.
To further communicate the importance of this year's Presidential elections, AOL Latino has recruited some of today’s hottest Hispanic singers including Sin Bandera, Vico C, Aleks Syntek, Alex Ubago, Shalim, JD Natasha and Obie Bermudez to record public service announcements encouraging members to vote. An audio and video stream of each celebrity declaring “your vote is your voice” will begin running today.
“AOL Latino empowers Hispanics with tools and information that helps enrich and better their lives,” says Lavonne Luquis, Director of Programming, AOL Latino. “Our partnership with Activote and our extensive news coverage reinforce our commitment to helping Hispanics understand the importance of voting and making an informed choice on Election Day.”
According to the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO), there are almost 40 million Hispanics residing in the United States. About seven million of them -- 6.1 percent of the US electorate and one million more than in the last presidential election -- will be eligible to vote in this November. Almost 14 million Hispanics are online.
"We have already seen in this year’s campaign that gaining the Hispanic vote is crucial and the Internet has become an essential tool in reaching this audience for both the Democrat and Republican parties," says Luquis. “With almost 14 million Hispanics online and as more and more Hispanics get connected to use the Internet for news, we hope that they will find that AOL Latino delivers the most comprehensive on-demand Spanish language content available on the Web.”
